Have you already saved enough that your investments will coast to financial independence on their own — even if you never contribute another dollar? Find out in seconds. Free, private, no sign-up.
Coast FIRE is the moment your existing nest egg is big enough that normal market growth alone will carry it to your full FIRE number by retirement. After that, you only need to earn enough to cover today's expenses — you can stop saving for retirement and still retire on time. It's the most freeing milestone on the path to financial independence.
Coast number = FIRE number ÷ (1 + real return)years to retirement, where FIRE number = annual spending ÷ your withdrawal rate (4% → 25×). If your current investments ≥ the coast number, you're Coast FIRE.
Should I really stop investing after Coast FIRE?You can — but many people keep investing to retire earlier or with a bigger cushion. Coast FIRE gives you the option to ease off, not an obligation.
